Dell Ready rails larger than 1U can be installed in a rack with threaded holes using adapter brackets from RackSolutions. Photo #1 shows the Ready Rail mounting mechanism used on Dell 11G servers. This mechanism has two large pins that are inserted into an unthreaded square hole or rack. These pins are 1/4" in diameter and will not fit standard racks with threaded holes. The mechanism has two small spring-loaded hooks that lock the rail into the shelf. RackSolutions adapter brackets convert round holes to square holes. To use the brackets, the screws must be installed in a location that does not interfere with the pins or hooks on the Dell Ready rails. There are two holes in the bracket to place the screws that do not interfere with the pins and hooks. Photo #2 shows where the screws are installed and how the pins and hooks are inserted into the adapter bracket. Once the bracket is installed in the rack, the Dell Ready rail can be installed using the normal method. The rail protrudes from the support. Dell-ready rails connect to the rear using a 2″ adapter bracket. The bracket is installed on the inside surface of the frame. This reduces the mounting depth of the rack by 2 inches, which is normally not a problem. Shallow racks can sometimes install a bracket on the outside of the rack, but using brackets larger than 0.59″ can sometimes cause additional interference issues from the rail itself. Photo #4 shows the 2" bracket with the Dell Ready Rail attached. Using 0.59″ and 2″ brackets in a rack with a mounting depth of 29″ results in a mounting depth of 27.59″. This is within the Dell Ready Rails mounting depth range. If your rack has an installation depth of less than 29″, other obstacles may arise when using the adapter brackets. Racks deeper than 29″ are not as prone to clogging as shallower racks because the adapter brackets are installed inside the rack. Different sizes of adapter brackets are available to solve the most common installation issues with Dell 11G servers. These brackets can be ordered online or through a Dell account representative. Third-party replacement rails are also available if the adapter mounts do not provide an acceptable solution. Dell 61KCY
